Term 3 Highlights/Reflection
We have been doing a lot of things over the term like X - Country, Timbernook, Electives and still to come is the social out of all these activities my highlight was going to flax rock for electives we did a whol lot of climbs from really easy one to having to climp with over hangs and especially the chimney but my favourite climb would have to be the chimney even though it was very hard as there were limited holds to crab onto and literally none at the to so you had to put your feet one side of the wall an you back on the other and slide yourself up. the other cool part of the climb was there wer ledges that you could sit on and and then look out the gaps in the wall down below while being 13 metres up!.

I am going to talk about how surfing is good for the mind and soul and why you should try it.
Sometimes life’s loads can dump on you like the crashing waves on a sandy beach. Well, surfing can help you improve your mental health and give you a great outlet to relieve stress and tension, Plus you will feel happier, more energetic, and more refreshed. Why? Surfing brings you closer to nature…well right in it to be exact. There is nothing like floating in the ocean, feeling free and at one with nature.
Learn patience and perseverance.
Like any new skill or activity, you need to dedicate time to learn it. For most that aren’t born to surf, it does take that little bit longer. But the key is patience and practise. Not only to learn how to surf a wave, but the patience to wait for that perfect wave to surf. Through surfing you will quickly learn the lesson of perseverance and the reward it can give.
Get fit. Get strong. Get active.
To put it simply, surfing is a full body workout. Now it’s not your everyday full body workout you get at the local gym. This is a unique workout using muscles you never knew existed. From paddling out past the wave break to the quick snap onto the board and balance, surfing is an all-round perfect blend of strength and cardio training.
Experience the best in the world
If you think about it…surfing is a great way to get traveling and visit some of the best places in the world. In NZ we have many surf breaks on some of the most amazing surf – Raglan, Wainui, Piha, Shipwreck Bay, Coromandel and Castle point ….just to name a few Plus many others around the world. Surfing gets you exploring new surroundings, meeting fellow surfers and making more holiday moments you will remember for years to come.
In conclusion, I think that you should all give surfing a go this summer and plus us being in Hawkes Bay we are surrounded by beaches and surfing may even just become a new hobby of yours that will improve your health and mind.
Speech Reflection
Self Reflection!
WALT: Plan, prepare and deliver a persuasive speech related to our T3 inquiry topic - Healthy Bodies, Strong Minds
Topic:Why Surfing is good for the mind soul and body
Persuasive component: WHy you should try surfing
Time: 2 minutes 11 seconds
Keep
(What would you keep in your speech if you did it again?)
|
Change
(What would you change in your speech for next time, how could you make it even better? and why?)
|
Match
(Pick a partner from our class and ask what they would keep, change, add and chuck. What is similar your’re thinking?)
|
I would keep my Introduction because I think that has the most detail of all the paragraphs
|
I would probably change my conclusion because I think it needs a bit more detail to completely finish it off
|
I matched with Evan
Keep: Evan would keep his intro and conclusion because they are the paragraphs that he spent the most time on.
Change: He would not be changing anything
Add: He would not add anything just change some words like reflect and define.
Chuck: He wouldn’t want to scrap any of his speech because the feedback said that most of his points came from his expressive writing.
Our most similar thinking would be our keep because we would both keep our intro because that is where we spent most of our time working on.
|
Add
(What further ideas and/or detail would you add to your speech? Were you persuasive enough - what do you peers think?)
|
Chuck
(What are some of the parts of your speech you would scrap?)
| |
I wouldn’t add anything because I feel that I have covered everything that I need to for my speech topic
|
I don’t think I would scrap anything otherwise my speech would be to short and there wouldn’t be enough information
|
Reflective thoughts above + feedback from your learning buddy/peers/teacher
= your next LEARNING step...
My next learning step for my next speech in the future is ……. To practice my speech more so I don’t stay looking at my cue cards and not make any eye contact with the audience
Because… I started my speech straight away by looking at my cue cards
